Important information
Equipment
For ski touring, you will need your regular skiing gear along with specialized equipment, including ski touring boots, skis, a helmet, crampons, ski crampons, an avalanche transceiver, a snow probe, and a snow shovel. All required equipment can be rented locally, but please inform us in advance.
Who are the guides?
Our guides have extensive experience leading ski touring groups in this region. They are highly knowledgeable about avalanche risks, how to mitigate them, and how to respond in case of an emergency. All guides are fluent in English and carry radios and satellite phones. The guide-to-client ratio is 1:5 for ski touring and 1:3 on the summit day for Mt. Elbrus.
Climbing Mt. Elbrus
After several days of ski touring, you will be well-acclimatized and physically prepared for the ascent of Mt. Elbrus. However, success depends largely on the weather. In spring, the snow above the Lenz Rocks (4600m) may be blown off, exposing bare ice. In such conditions, skis will be left behind, and crampons will be used. Guides may also install belay ropes if necessary. In May and June, snow conditions on Elbrus usually allow for a full ski ascent.
Experience and skills
Previous ski touring experience is crucial for this trip. Participants must be familiar with specialized ascent techniques and possess excellent skiing skills. This ensures the group can move efficiently without delays, as participants are not required to wait for each other during ascents or descents.
